Recreation

How do you prefer to spend your recreation time...fishing...exploring nature trails...perfecting your ground strokes? Winston County has a wealth of "rest and relaxation" opportunities that appeal to all ages and interests.
An outdoorsman's "wonderland", the area boasts acres of unspoiled natural lands teeming with fish and game. Or if you wish, you may spend some quality time with your family at local parks, which feature ballfields, tennis courts, playgrounds and picnic areas. Amenities at a private country club include an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, and a swimming pool.
Explore the area's heritage at state parks located in and around Winston County. Legion State Park retains a rustic atmosphere, offering a 1930's era Legion Lodge, constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Visitors may utilize seven rustic cabins, two fishing lakes, a nature trail, a picnic pavilion and tent camping facilities.
Learn more about the Choctaw Indian nation by visiting Nanih Waiya Historical Site. The park site is the legendary birthplace of the Choctaw Indian nation and the site of their sacred mound, Nanih Waiya. The mound, according to artifacts, dates back to the time of Christ. The Nanih Waiya Cave Mound, a natural geological formation approximately 1 1/2 miles from the man-made mound, is open for visitors to explore. You may take a historical tour of the sites or enjoy a picnic in this scenic, history-filled area.
Lake Tiak O'Khata is bounded by a resort offering white sandy beaches, supervised swimming areas and tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts. Fishermen drive from miles around to sink a line in the lake, which is famous for its large mouth bass. Lodging and several dining facilities are available here as well.
The Louisville Coliseum, updated and in top condition, is an important part of life in the Winston County area. It is home to the East Mississippi Fall Classic Walking and Racking Horse Show, voted best show for several years.
Be sure to bring your playful spirit when you come to Winston County. You'll exercise your mind, body, and soul in our recreational paradise!
